Emily Shaw LICSW

I am a licensed clinical social worker providing psychotherapy to teens, adults, couples and families struggling with a range of emotional and relational/interpersonal issues. Initially trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy and family therapy, my orientation is also strongly influenced by the Mindfulness fields and my training in EMDR.

I work collaboratively to help you make sense of what is going on- To identify what the problem is and why you are feeling the way you are feeling, and with this knowledge consider how to shift things. I'm not interested in getting stuck in the past, yet knowing our past and ourselves, and seeing connections to our present, is what puts us on solid ground to move forward for ourselves, and in relationships.

I have a BA with Honors from Brown University and a Masters in Social Work from New York University. I have been in practice since 2003 and my professional experience and training includes work at the Jacobi Medical Center in New York and the Austen Riggs Center in Stockbridge, MA.

Prior to being a psychotherapist I worked in marketing and advertising, and for a non-profit organization focused on early intervention for children and families.
